Being a painter is a labor of love. The late night solitude of the studio when you are the only one up and even the dog has deserted you are the times when you realize that you are here solely for yourself.
You paint because you can and it would be silly not to.
Being an artist is another matter entirely. The act of being an artist is a matter of guts. Putting your own creation out there to be viewed and judged can be a daunting thing. The rejections have to be ignored and the accolades must be treasured.
The two together at times contradict and fight each other. But when they come together in harmony the result can be stunning for the viewer.
