Emily Simpson
Sol Eye Glass
I have always been creative. First with fabric and needle arts then came plants and gardens with bursts of color. Next came a career of creative problem solving in sales. Then in the early 90’s I discovered art glass when I took an introductory fusing class in Ohio. Playing with heat to melt and fuse glass designs was captivating. Now my art has come full circle back to quilting and plants. I cut up sheet glass and reform it into designs that come to life in the kiln, sometimes at high temperatures to be melted flat or sometimes at a lower temperature to retain the texture. Lovely landscapes with fluid transparent skies are a common theme. My favorite uses actual botanicals to create the fossil vitra style. Always experimenting. Always appreciating the transparency of glass.
